If you’re new to working out and seeking a comprehensive solution to meet your health and fitness goals, BetterMe is a great workout app for you.
With its personalized Daily Plan at the core, this app manages various aspects of your well-being, including your daily workout routine, fasting schedule, tracking your step count and monitoring your water intake.
One of the standout features of BetterMe is its emphasis on the mental side of health. The app provides insightful articles about healthy living and good nutrition, which are actually built in to your daily plan. You can clearly see BetterMe is aiming to promote positive habits and a healthier lifestyle change.
Additionally, BetterMe boasts an extensive nutrition section that offers meal plans and a wide selection of healthy recipes. While this feature is highly beneficial, it’s worth noting that it requires an additional payment to access.
When it comes to the workout content itself, BetterMe falls slightly short in terms of quality. There is a lot of choice with hundreds of workout routines spanning various categories including everything from cardio workouts to chair yoga. However, the videos tend to be basic and lack elements such as backing music and audio instructions from the trainers.

First Impressions
BetterMe immediately greets you with a huge onboarding quiz, covering everything from fitness levels to goals and motivations.
While it may feel overwhelming, this quiz creates a personalized daily fitness plan that includes workouts and a daily meal planner. This comprehensive plan covers everything from tracking your step count to monitoring your daily water intake, which is really helpful for beginners who need help in all aspects of their fitness planning.
Workout Review
BetterMe offers a wide range of workout options, claiming to have over 1500 workouts available on the website (however the number of workouts available within the app itself appears to be less than this).
Users can choose from various categories, including Abs, Fitness at home, Chair Yoga, Boxing, Dancing, HIIT, Family workout with kids, Cardio, and even Guided walking.
One notable drawback is the absence of a search or filter functionality to refine workouts based on duration or intensity. This lack of customization limits the app’s usability for users who have specific preferences or time constraints.
Unfortunately, the quality of the actual workouts leaves room for improvement. The workout videos lack inspiration, and and there is an absence of backing music or guided narration from instructors. Additionally, there is limited flexibility to customize workouts—for instance, users cannot swap out one exercise for another, limiting personalization options.
On top of this there are missing features such as no ability to download videos to workout offline at a later time.
Overall the workouts in BetterMe feel underwhelming and lack in comparison to other workout apps.
Nutrition
BetterMe offers a substantial nutrition section that includes a daily meal planner featuring breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner recipes. The recipes are personalized to your diet and fitness goals, and based off the onboarding quiz taken when opening BetterMe for the first time.
The app also provides a calorie logging and tracking feature. Users can easily search for foods or scan product barcodes to obtain accurate calorie counts. This is great for accurately monitoring your calorie count in addition to whats provided by the daily meal plan.
Unfortunately this nutrition functionality comes at a hefty additional cost on top of the premium subscription.
Challenges
BetterMe offers a variety of challenges covering various subjects, including fasting, abstaining from alcohol, achieving six-pack abs, improving sleep quality, and more. These challenges are great if you are trying to achieve something specific, as you get additional support and guidance to increase the chances of achieving the goal.
However, just like with the nutrition features, participating in challenges will cost you more money on top of the premium subscription!
Progress Tracking
There are a bunch of helpful features to help uses track their progress in BetterMe. You can set a target weight and monitor your progress towards achieving it. Additionally, you can track other things such as water intake and daily step counts. Unfortunately with the latter you can’t manually enter step counts, and have to link your app to a device tracker to get these numbers.
While the progress tracking features in BetterMe are useful, they may be considered relatively limited compared to other workout apps on the market. Competing apps include features such as reward badges, more detailed stats, and better progress graphs, providing users with more detail when viewing their progress.
Who Should Use BetterMe
Beginners will like the app for its range of gentler workouts, and comprehensive feature set that support all aspects of a users fitness journey.
Users with more fitness experience may find the workouts too basic.
If you are on a budget, BetterMe is not a great option, as the app requires a monthly subscription to use, and there are constant upsells to unlock additional features.
