Is Alo Moves Worth It?
Alo Moves is right at the top end of the premium scale when it comes to Yoga workout apps. The app has got a clean and crisp design, and is filled with over 3000 workouts. Instagram famous instructors guide you through workout videos set to aspirational backdrops (Abs workout in the Bahamas anyone??). If you want to feel like you are living the glam life of a fitness influencer this might be the app for you.
The workouts in Alo Moves go beyond Yoga – there are also hundreds of fitness workouts available, as well as a large collection of meditation videos. Drill down deeper and you can find various types of fitness workout – barre, high intensity intervals, and Pilates are all options in the app. Alo Moves could easily meet all your fitness needs in this one app.
Because of the large library of workouts, beginners and advanced Yoga users will find plenty of content to satisfy them. Plus a great set of search filters makes it easy to find the perfect workout.
If you like to workout as part of a community, Alo Moves will not disappoint. Social features have been built right into the core of the app. You can follow other users, comment on and like their workouts, and have your workouts liked in return. This is great motivation to keep you progressing on your fitness journey.
Alo Moves is part of the wider Alo Yoga group, which has physical Yoga studios in various locations in the United States. There is also an online ecommerce store where you can find Alo Yoga fitness apparel (which is promoted throughout the Alo Moves app). This all helps to immerse you in the Alo Yoga brand.
To accompany the premium content and features, the app carries a premium price tag. At $20 per month subscription this is one of the most expensive apps we have used. However a lengthy 14 day free trial will give you plenty of time to decide if the price is worth it!

Workout Review
There is a huge collection of workouts available in Alo Moves – over 3000 at time of writing. These are split into 4 categories – fitness, mindfulness, skills and yoga. We especially liked the skills section, where you can learn such techniques as handstands and other exotic Yoga balances. This is a fun feature typically not found in similar apps.
Workouts range in duration from 5 minutes up to a beasty 90 minutes, and include all levels from beginner to advanced. There is a workout for every type of user in Alo Moves.
As well as individual workouts, you can find over 300 collections, which are essentially multiple workout videos grouped by theme. You can find a series of workouts based on body area (the classic 21 day abs workout), or even based around an exotic location (Workout in Ibiza). This huge catalogue will provide enough content to keep your workouts interesting and varied for a very long time.
A necessity with such a large library of workouts is a way to filter them, and Alo Moves has a great search function. On top of the usual filters you would expect to find (intensity level, type of workout, and duration), you also have a search filter for instructor. This is great if you find yourself identifying with a particular style of one of the instructors and want more of their videos.
The workout videos themselves are very well put together, and are shot with inspirational backgrounds such as beaches and luxury villas. Instructors provide constant narration throughout the videos to help motivate you during the workout.
We really liked the way the videos are produced, it actually feels like you are part of a live workout class. The social features of the app also contribute to this community feeling, which leads us nicely into the next section…
Community and Social Features
In addition to the huge library of premium content, the other area in which Alo Moves shines is the community and social features.
A social feed has been built around the workouts, and once you follow other users you will be able to see their exercise history, as well as comment on and liking the workouts. (Note – there is a privacy setting to keep your feed hidden if you don’t want to share!). Alo Moves also awards users with achievements which show up as badges on their workouts. For example, completing your first workout, or working out 5 weeks in a row.
All these features have produced a vibrant community in the app, who encourage each other with their workout and fitness goals. This is a really powerful motivator for some people, and if you like to have your ego pumped by getting a ‘well done’ from others then this is definitely an app to try out.
Progress Tracking and Goal Setting
There isn’t much to speak of here, and it is clear Alo Moves favors community features over progress tracking and goal setting.
You can log your workouts (including offline workouts not related to the app), as well as adding pictures and comments about them. However this relates more around giving you content for your social feed, rather than a record of workouts and improved progress.
Alo Moves has some basic stats tracking where you can see graphs around how many times you workout in a week etc. Nothing really to get excited about here.
Extras
Like most workout apps at this price range, you can download videos to use offline.
