Overview
BetterMe aims to provide more than just your workouts. The core feature of the app is the Daily Plan, which incorporates a daily workout, an article around healthy living or nutrition, and a selection of daily targets to hit, such as calorie counts, step trackers, water intake and even a fasting timer.
The app really focuses on helping you create a healthy lifestyle. One of the stand out features is the nutrition section with its daily meal plan of breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner. You can also search for and log additional food to get an accurate calorie count for each day.
FitOn is also packed with an array of supporting features in addition to the workouts, including progress tracking features such as before and after photos, and a weight tracker. Just like BetterMe, there is a nutrition section featuring hundreds of healthy recipes.
A big difference between the apps is the inclusion of community forums and the ability to follow your friends in FitOn. This turns working out into a social experience, and adds a vibrant community feel to the app.
Both apps have a large selection of workouts available across a broad range of categories (HIIT, cardio, yoga, and some more interesting categories like working out with your kids). The workouts in FitOn are better quality, with backing music and guided narration from the instructor. You also get the ability to download and use workout videos offline in FitOn, which is a feature sadly missing in BetterMe.
In regards to price, you can actually access the workouts in FitOn for free. If you want to unlock all the premium features (such as training plans and the nutrition section) then you must upgrade to a pro package for $24.99 per month. In comparison BetterMe seems quite expensive, as you have to subscribe to a $19.99 monthly package to use the app, and then pay extra on top for features like the nutrition section.
Which is better? FitOn or BetterMe?
Both apps are great for newbies, with large selections of beginner friendly workouts, and useful additional features to help you stick to your fitness plan.
If you get your workout motivation from interacting with other people, FitOn is the best choice for you. The community forums and ability to follow your friends makes working out an engaging social experience.
Overall we would recommend FitOn as the best workout app. You get better quality workout content, more supporting features, for less money.
