Overview
FitOn is the complete home workout app, packed with hundreds of instructor-led workout videos. Regardless of your experience, you are likely to find something suitable in the app.
There are dozens of categories to select from, including cardio, HIIT, Pilates and Yoga routines. The workouts come in various durations and intensities, to cater for beginners and more experienced users alike. There is definitely a female flavour to the app, as many of the workout categories are female specific (pre and post natal being prime examples).
Freeletics is a different beast altogether. The majority of the workouts are very intense, and are based around HIIT and strength training routines. You are encouraged to complete workouts as fast as possible in order to beat previous times. The app is perfect is you are motivated by competition!
Both apps have fantastic social and community features baked in. There are social feeds, community forums, and the ability to follow and comment on your friends workouts.
FitOn also has a built in nutrition section, complete with over 500 healthy recipes and a daily meal planner. With Freeletics you have to download a different app (and pay extra) to access nutrition features.
Price wise, FitOn is better value. All workouts are free, and you pay $24.99 for a 6 month subscription to unlock the pro package. This unlocks features such as training plans, and downloading workout videos to use offline. Comparatively Freeletics is more expensive, costing $34.99 for just a 3 month subscription, and only a limited number of workouts are available for free.
Which is better? FitOn or Freeletics?
Beginners will get on well with FitOn, due to the huge array of workout content available, in various fitness categories and intensity levels. Also there is lots of helpful content to aid you on your fitness journey, including the nutrition advice and some progress tracking features.
Female users will find lots of specialized workout categories such as exercises for pre and postnatal, and dance routines.
If you want intense workouts, and your main workout motivation is competing against yourself and others, then Freeletics is the app you need. The workouts are super hard, and everything in the app revolves around beating your previous times and earning achievement badges for completing workouts.
